When it comes to wedding dress shopping you will have a vision from either something we all dream of or done some research via online platforms this can be facebook, pintrest or online.
From experience and from working with other brides I can give you a little insight into going shopping as I know there are some burning questions that I know we all think before going which are as follows:
- What underwear should I wear?
- What should I expect?
- I have a dress in mind what if I don’t find it?
Firstly what underwear should I wear the best advice is just your normal underwear or what you feel comfortable in. When trying on dresses I would say to take it off when you get to the boutique as most dresses now have cups built into the dresses this would also apply if your thinking a backless dress as you want to be able to see the full picture and how it feels. If you feel more comfortable you can also wear shapewear.
I would suggest a white or nude colour underwear as you don’t want to look back on photos and be able to see your dark underwear through the underskirts of your dresses. This will also make you feel more comfortable and elegant.
Secondly what should I expect. Expectations can be high when trying dresses on for the first time. I know some women are not sure of what to expect but the best thing is to enjoy and relax throughout the process. If your stressed or anxious your not going to be able to enjoy the experience and you never know you may find your dream dress in the first boutique but some brides find it takes more than one to find the right dream dress.
When you visit the boutique they will ask what clothes size you are this is just a guide wedding dresses can vary size wise depending on shape and style. I wouldn’t worry about the size of the dress it’s the feeling that it gives you.
Once the dress size has been discussed you will be asked on the style of dress your thinking of as there are different styles of dresses. I will explain these in a further blog. You will then be showed into a dressing room and to get changed into a bridal dressing gown while the bridal stylist brings a variety of dresses for you to try on.
This will show what styles you do and don’t like and can narrow it down from there. Once you have found your dream dress I would advise you have some tissues at hand as the feeling can be overwhelming and you may shed a tear this is perfectly normal especially when the dress is teamed up with a veil and tiara.
Finally the final question you have a dress in mind but what if I don’t find it. This is the question I hear the most the simple answer to it is what you have in mind won’t be the dream dress. The perception of what you think you want is the complete opposite 90% of the time. From personal experience what I wanted I walked out with something completely different. This is normal but when you find the dream dress which will be perfect you will feel a million dollars and the queen.
